Progress report

Hi kids,

Life happened, posts did not.

Sorry.

Went through the internship application process, just waiting to hear back and figure out where I'll be at this summer. I'm not all too worried about it, really. I'm sure I will end up somewhere.

I have decided that I will pretty much stop working at the paper. It was fun, and I like the people, but I'm just tired of working there every day. I need time for my snobby magazines (i.e. The Economist, The New Yorker), and I want to slow things down a little bit. I've only got 3 semesters left, and then there's no turning back.

So I'll be perching at a bar enjoying some cold drinks next semester instead of slaving at work every damn night. But first I need to get through this semester.

Which will surely drive me to defenestrate myself.

Well, To Answer My Own Question

Like I said earlier...I've been super busy.

It's been rather interesting getting acclimated to this new school of mine, but I think I've finally settled in nicely.

However, all of this transition really put me behind the power curve as far as applying to internships and stuff. I was able to squeeze out the stuff for AP (with my interview and test) and I'm applying to the Chicago Tribune, LA Times, O the magazine and Black Enterprise. I honestly would like to stick with business news, but right now anyone who will take me...pay me is, well, all right with me.

I've written a bit for the Daily Cougar, U of H's paper. I have to admit, I'm really tired of campus news. It's more of a chore to do than a pleasure. I don't even feel I'm growing as a writer because I hardly get any feedback from them, but that's expected...they're students also, and how much could they tell me? I've also written for BlackCollegeWire and The Black Collegian Magazine, mainly about the hurricane stuff...

I've also began to give grad school some heavy consideration. We'll see how things are looking when graduation rolls around.

And I'm pimpin these guys left and right...just thought you'd like to know =P

More from me in the future....

The not-so-deep-south

I'm still alive too.

I spent the night in the campus' main library cause my car wouldn't start and I live 30 miles away, so I've spent the day sleeping.

I've applied to a few places so far... The Associated Press, The Detroit News, The Louisville Courier Journal and Gannett.

We'll see where it goes. I might end up doing business reporting, I might not.

I've been super busy, between writing, editing and photography, I've had a full dance card.

www.kykernel.com - If you look at today's front, I wrote the top story, took the centerpiece photo and edited the stories.

I'm so busy I don't know what to do, sometimes, but I love it.

I'm also entered in the Hearst Photojournalism competition. Cross your fingers, guys! I need a little bit of luck!

I miss you all terribly. Looking back through the pictures and posting them on "facepaint" made me miss the workshop in NYC terribly.

I guess we all just have to keep on keepin' on.

Take care of yourselves, everyone. We've got a reunion in 10 years or so. You all better be there.

If only so I can take a ton of pictures and so you can see Sara kung fu me.

Wondering if you wear the same cologne, smelled good, on you

more from J. Scott.

I can't say I forgot about the blog because I'm too lazy to bookmark Ash's blog so I go to her site via this one - so I feel there's no good excuse as why I haven't posted anything sooner.

I'm currently interning for America Online's Black Voices website (http://blackvoices.aol.com). I love it and hope to stay through next summer...if my job wants me of course. That whole going to a new city for 12 weeks to do an internship gets old after doing it for 3 straight summers so I'm trying to stay in one place. Sorry, newspaper industry...

Besides that, school is, well, school. Spending Thanksgiving away from home from the first time. Sucks to say the least but I'll be back home for Christmas.

How is everyone else doing?

I was just thinkin about you, wonderin what you're doin...I mean whatcha been up to?

...From the incredibly talented Ms. Jill Scott...

Hey DJNF Kiddos, how's everything? I know we've all been incredibly busy trying to take over the world in our own right, but I just wanted to see what everyone has been up to.

I'm at U of H with Tony...hi Tony!!! I like it...Houston is home so it's all good. I miss my old school, but I'm here for a reason, so I'm running with it. =)

Where is everyone trying to intern/work after graduation?

If the blog is dead, I completely understand, but I just wanted holler and see what was up.

Hope to hear from somebody, lol....
